Signe Wilkinson published this cartoon on April 4, 2011 following the Japanese tidal wave and the resulting problems at the Fukushima nuclear plant.
Signe is a master at combining multiple subjects in a cartoon. In this case, the Japanese disaster is combined with references to the the food choices available to Americans. The cartoon goes even further to reference cigarettes and more.
When asked about using this cartoon for this contest, Signe replied "This cartoon was drawn in reaction to a major environmental event and my caption reflects it. Since there's no reference in the drawing to the event... have at it!"
The drawing suggests all kinds of possibilities and reference to Fukushima is not required to have text and caption work together.
